The Meeting on 13 September 2007 was on "working at height". Roger Cant spoke about the Working at Height regulations and other practical aspects of safe working at height were demonstrated outside. The three Photographs below illustrate some of the equipment on show.

System Scaffold

System Scaffold

The above system scaffold was demonstrated by Matt Mullineux from System Scaffold Contracts. This type of scaffold is very quick to erect and alter to take account of building requirements. Note the quick release joints shown in the detail in the bottom right hand corner and the pegged transoms with matching socketed battens to give the whole structure added strength and rigidity.

Safe stand platform

Safe stand platform

The above safe stand platform for short term maintainance work is easy to erect with telescopic aluminum battens and jacking supports, it is normally fully barrierd (not shown here). It is being demonstrated here by Bruce Carter of RPB Building.

Soft landing system

Soft Landing System

These bale shaped units lock together to form a soft platform which must be less than 2m below the work height and provides a safe landing area for use in buildings under construction. Larger units are produced specifically for use around lorry bodies to break falls while loading or unloading trucks. This soft landing system was shown by Brian Bates of Forest Safety Products Ltd.
